This activity aimed at youth, adults, or intergenerational groups can be used for group building as well as serving as a form of experiential Bible study. It works best if the participants understand the basics of creating frozen scenes—so you might want to review the video entitled Rehearsing Tableaux.

  • Divide into groups of six to ten and give each group a Bible story to present.

  • Each group should read and discuss the passage, and then determine three frozen pictures that tell the story—with a beginning, a middle, and an end. Instruct the groups they have 20 minutes to stage and rehearse their slides.

  • When everyone’s ready, come back together and perform the scenes for one another.

You can have each group announce the title of their story before they present their tableaux—but it can also be fun to perform first and let the audience try to guess the story. It’s helpful to have a facilitator (not part of the group) introduce each group and lead them in presenting their slides one at a time.
