Students walking in a circle attempt to stop, start, and change direction at precisely the same moment without speaking, in this theater exercise that builds listening and concentration skills as a team.

Step-by-Step Instructions
The students begin walking in a circle slowly. Each student concentrates and uses his/her side vision to take in all the other students in the circle simultaneously.
At any time, one student can stop walking and, immediately, the other students have to stop as well. After a pause, the group should start walking again. The goal is for the group members to be so in sync with each other that they start and stop as one.
Once the group has mastered starting and stopping together, tell the students that–in addition to stopping and starting–they can now reverse directions. Continue the exercise, with individual students leading the group in stopping, starting, and reversing direction.
Stress that students should try to be aware of the group as a whole and to move as a single unit.
